Unsought Wisdom Series. Episode 2. The Four Layers of Excellence in Career Progression

The 4 layers of excellence you need as your career progresses:
1. Execution excellence: Getting things done. Doing what is told. Capturing, configuring, controlling— all that comes your way.

2. Management excellence: Being able to derive the tasks from a goal given by the top tier. Delegating execution in a 360 degree fashion. Result oriented thinking. Bringing solutions.

3. Political excellence: Convincing peers, subordinates, and bosses towards the same goal when needed. Finding the win-win-win intersection when there are varying incentives at play.

4. Networking excellence: Being able to represent the whole organization, or even a bigger entity, and align bodies beyond just individuals.

Your use of networking excellence might peak at the top management, but that does not mean you no longer need execution excellence. The bases must be strong for the top layers to be stable.
