Hiding in Silence

It may seem that we are supposed to beat our drums constantly, let people know how we are progressing in life and career. There are obviously good sides to being able to do this right. However, there can be times where you do not have enough energy to put yourself out there. There are times that require rest and silence. Times that require rethinking, regrouping, and mustering the necessary elements for an unfamiliar voyage.

I spent a large part of 2021 writing fiction, rarely focusing on the professional aspect of my life online. Planning for other areas of my life did not stop, however, as I diligently tracked studies and exploration. In some ways, it allowed me to be more flexible and intuitive in my approach than previous years.

If you have been silent and observant for a while, and not sure what it means for you, the following lines from David Whyte may be of some reassurance.

"We live in a time of the dissected soul, the immediate disclosure; our thoughts, imaginings and longings exposed to the light too much, too early and too often, our best qualities squeezed too soon into a world already awash with too easily articulated ideas that oppress our sense of self and our sense of others. What is real is almost always to begin with, hidden, and does not want to be understood by the part of our mind that mistakenly thinks it knows what is happening. What is precious inside us does not care to be known by the mind in ways that diminish its presence."
(Hiding, Consolations).
